If you do everything in right way then your images will help you in increasing traffic on your blog.

Second and the most important factor is page load time. People don't like to visit slow loading pages. The images in your post increase the size of the post and can make it load slow. Slow loading page is definitely going to affect on your search ranking.

You must make your images search engine friendly. Images of your blog help search engines about the content of the post. If your blog is based on images only then you must follow all the steps given here to make sure that search engine crawlers can read your images.

How to optimize images in Blogger?

Now when you already know why you need image optimization, it's time to know what you need to do.

Image size and name

First point that you should keep in mind is image size. This is something which is going to decide the loading speed of your page. Before uploading images, make sure your images are not that big in size.

Images within 30K is best for your blog and if you want to have some good resolution and screen size then maximum 100K.

If you're going to upload an image of size 1800x1200 and then you're resizing it in post editor to show it in 450x300 then it's not going to help as the real image is still going to load in full size. So it would be better if you resize your images first and then upload them.

Image name or file name is also something that you should not forget. If your image is of a flower then it must have name 'flower' and not 'Image2344424221'. Rename your images first and then upload.

Post related image

Images of your post must reflect the content of the post. It should be related with the content of the post. It would be better if you use your own images than copying some images from the internet.

Most of the images of my blog are my own and I made them with the help of PhotoShop. If you are not that good in using any editing software then you can use some online image editing websites like

It's free to use and comes with great editing tools. Create your own images and upload them in your blog posts. It will also help you in choosing right image size for your blog.

Adding tags to images

Once you have uploaded your image in post editor, the next step is to add title and alt tag. While title tag is an optional tag but you must add alt tag as it helps search engine crawler to read the image.

To add title and alt tag just click on the image and then click on 'Properties'

Image Properties In Post Editor

After that give some details about the image in 'alt' and 'title' tag box.

Some points you should know about these tags.

Title:- The text in 'Title' will appear when someone brings mouse cursor over the image. So it serves as a tool tip for images.

Alt:- The text in 'Alt' will appear in case of slow internet speed where images can't load completely and comes in blank box with alt text in it. Also, it's important as it is used by screen readers, the browsers used by blind and visually impaired people, to tell them what is on the image.

You can also see 'Add caption' option in above screenshot. You can use this too to help search engine crawlers read your images better. Also, if your blog is based on images alone then it would be better if you use 'Caption' for your images.

Final words:-

Name your images first
Resize your images according to the need
Add alt and title tag
